The Art of Trusting Yourself

Say yes. Say it with all your heart. Say it without hesitation. Say it with your eyes. Say it with your feet. Say yes with your spirit, which always knows. Say yes to people, places, and things that make you feel safe. That make you feel joy. That make you feel you belong. That make you feel welcome. That make you feel calm. That make you feel strong. That make you feel like yourself. You know that feeling? There’s nothing like it.

Say no. Say it with all your heart. Say it without hesitation. Say it with your mouth. Say it with your money. Say it with your spirit, which always knows. Say it as a complete sentence, without justifying or explaining or apologizing. Say it to people, places, and things that you make you feel uneasy. That make you feel less than. That make you feel defensive. That make you feel like running away and hiding out. You know that feeling? There’s nothing like it.

Be brave. Be good to yourself.

a fine post, Jena—-we were not taught enough as children (at least most of us) to say YES to what we need….and the NO was even less taught…..drawing the line, being upset, being angry—-this was so taboo where I grew up…..it’s taken me a lot of therapy to learn this….and the writing helps a lot too…..thank you for this!

I needed to be reminded of saying no just now! Thank you Jena. And Daniel Boylan’s comment says it correctly. Many of us were not taught to say no without it being taboo and wrong.
